Abstract
Across multiple IoT cloud platforms, the role of interoperability is paramount to bridge gaps, foster inclusivity, and catalyze growth across various sectors. IoT inter-cloud interoperability knits a seamless fabric of connectivity, where data is not confined by the boundaries of individual platforms but flows horizontally, across different IoT platforms. Interoperability shapes the principle of unity, bringing together disparate technologies to support the co-creation of innovation. This chapter defines IoT inter-cloud fabric and reveals related interoperability challenges. We then navigate through the economic, environmental, and social dimensions of sustainability with IoT inter-cloud interoperability. Real-life use cases are showcased across sectors such as healthcare, urban management, and agriculture, to unveil the transformative potential of this interoperability. The prospective advancements in semantic interoperability, artificial intelligence, and machine learning and the evolution of standards and protocols are discussed as future directions in streamlining data integration.
