Abstract
This chapter examines the transformative impact of IoT and cloud technologies in public sector services, highlighting their role in advancing social good within municipalities. The strategic impacts of these technologies to address urban challenges, improve public utilities, and elevate citizen well-being, are emphasized. Real-world examples from global cities showcase smart solutions induced from the fusion of IoT and cloud computing, which are further discussed in the context of public sector services, such as waste management, traffic congestion, and environment monitoring. The importance of measuring success, outlining metrics such as service efficiency, cost savings, and environmental benefit are underscored, while exploring the value proposition of IoT and cloud for strategic innovation, economic development, and inclusive access to public services. The future outlook is framed as a balanced approach, integrating user-centric design, ethical considerations, and a commitment to data privacy regulations, such as GDPR, to harness the full potential of IoT for societal benefits.
