Abstract
The integration of IoT and cloud computing into the automotive sector is transforming the landscape of connected mobility. This chapter describes the concept of connected mobility, which underpins this transformative approach that interlinks vehicles, infrastructure, and users into a cohesive, intelligent network. These advances are propelled by the ability to facilitate real-time communication and coordination for enhancing safety, efficiency, and user experience. Autonomous vehicles, acting as IoT entities, employ cloud connectivity to access extensive computational resources, enabling informed navigation decisions and interaction with a myriad of connected elements. As we project future trends, the expansion of shared electric fleets, the importance of new mobility technologies, and the growth of data-driven services are discussed as illustrations of future mobility services, which are seamlessly woven into the fabric of smart, connected cities. Some case studies conclude the chapter to demonstrate practical applications of connected mobility solutions in real-world contexts, as evidences of successful implementation strategies. A glimpse into the future of connected mobility is discussed as well, where automation, electrification, and data-centric personalization converge to redefine transportation systems and urban landscapes.
