Abstract
This chapter describes the results of an open-ended survey conducted among faculty members from a federal university's college who participated in a GenAI integration workshop in Spring 2024. The study employed a qualitative approach to explore 70 faculty members' perceptions on GenAI usage in teaching, benefits, and potential challenges anticipated in the deployment of these tools. Findings indicate that ChatGPT was the most widely used GenAI tool among faculty members. Key applications of GenAI tools included developing lessons and providing feedback. However, concerns were raised about plagiarism and academic integrity, over-reliance on GenAI tools, lack of institutional policies, and training, and biases in GenAI content. The chapter advocates for a careful but proactive approach to integrating GenAI in education, with the goal of maximizing its potential while preserving academic rigor and ethical standards. Ultimately, the aim is to create an educational environment where technology enhances human teaching and learning, leading to a future of responsible and enriched education.
