Abstract
This paper examines the potential implications of tariff policies implemented under the Trump administration for international tourism flows, highlighting the economic, behavioural and institutional dimensions. The study explores how unilateral tariff actions disrupt international stability and cooperation, critical to tourism activities. We emphasize the necessity of considering price and income elasticities of tourism demand as tariffs indirectly elevate travel-related costs and alter disposable incomes, potentially transforming tourism into a more income-sensitive luxury. Furthermore, this paper proposes directions for future research. We believe that academic research on the topic should also explore the broader implications of economic nationalism, suggesting that tourism serves as a vital lens for assessing the indirect consequences of trade protectionism and geopolitical tensions.
