Abstract
This entry provides an overview of the key ethical principles, concepts, and processes for consideration when designing effective assessment in the field of second language acquisition (SLA). By providing an overview of the analysis of risk and benefit, of teacher responsibilities, and of the components of an assessment instrument that is effective in terms of purpose, methodology, and analytic procedures, this entry will enhance practitioners' understanding of the ethical considerations that underpin language testing and assessment practices.
