Abstract

Globalization, technologicalization, interconnectedness, and migration have transformed societies in general in many aspects, namely their educational systems. Small-scale applications of plurilingual pedagogy appear to be flourishing in isolated, individual initiatives by teachers in the region as well. Plurilingual pedagogy is a term predominately used in the European context with an undoubted didactic stance which concerns approaches that “involve the use of more than one/several varieties of languages or cultures simultaneously during the teaching process.” Translanguaging was originally applied and supported by Williams in Wales in the 90s in the context of Welsh revitalization programs in which the teacher would teach in Welsh but allow for answers from the students in English. The chapter also presents an overview on the key concepts discussed in this book.
