Abstract

Technologies are interwoven into all aspects of postdigital cityscapes, from governance and education to culture and social interaction. The contemporary metropolis is circuited by data-traffic-systems, artificial intelligence (AI), surveillance architectures, geolocational apps, and metrics. These infrastructures are seemingly transparent, despite expansive cloud storage utilities, vast data centres, and stacks of networks. Difficulties in conceiving of the postdigital city stem from this presumed transparency as well as the evasive language of techno-positivism which distracts from the precarities, instabilities, and systemic inequities of postdigital urban architectures, arrangements, and imaginaries.
