Abstract
Today, the world faces increasing cyber attack dangers that hinder many critical businesses. As such, security awareness training and education are crucial. This paper explores Cybersecurity learning in the Metaverse through the development of a gamified virtual learning management system. The system efficacy is evaluated with practical case studies. We first review current gamification techniques and platforms used in cyber secu-rity training. Then, we design learning scenarios using metaverse virtual learning management, gamification techniques, and active learning theory. We argue that the Metaverse, combined with simulated attacks, provides an immersive learning environment, customization, scalability, and fosters cooperation and social learning. We demonstrate this through commonly occurring attack types: web attacks, phishing, denial of service attacks, and social engineering. We illustrate how students can learn to recognize and avoid these attacks in the Metaverse. The Metaverse-enabled gamification model was evaluated by students for immersive experience. In conclusion, the Metaverse shows great potential as a tool for cybersecurity teaching and training, especially for simulated attacks.
