Abstract
As universities face increasing pressure to demonstrate teaching excellence and accountability, peer observation has become crucial for enhancing pedagogical practices as a quality assurance mechanism and a professional development tool. While the effectiveness of peer observation is well-documented, its success largely depends on institutional culture, implementation structure, formal requirements, and developmental objectives. The discussion emphasizes how peer observation can transcend compliance-driven evaluation to become a catalyst for institutional learning. Special attention is given to the role of observers, the importance of non-evaluative feedback, and the potential of cross-disciplinary observations in fostering innovative teaching practices. The chapter concludes by addressing key challenges and opportunities, offering recommendations for institutions seeking to develop effective peer observation programs that support quality assurance and professional growth in teaching practice.
