Abstract

Higher education continues to rely heavily on lecture-based instruction and static textbooks, approaches that often fail to sustain student engagement or support experiential learning. Although cinema has been used in education as a supplementary resource, existing practices do not systematically transform core academic content into cinematic form. This paper proposes an AI-driven interactive cinema framework that converts traditional textbooks into curriculum-aligned educational films enriched with subtitles, terminology explanations, and scenario-based learner interactions. Grounded in a qualitative co-design methodology involving Information Systems experts and educators, the study identifies key pedagogical and technical requirements and translates them into a modular, scalable system architecture. The proposed framework integrates textbook knowledge extraction, generative AI-based cinematic content creation, branching decision logic, and learning analytics within existing learning management systems. By positioning cinema as a primary instructional medium rather than an add-on, this work advances current approaches to AI in education and offers a future-ready model for enhancing engagement, experiential learning, and theory-practice integration in higher education.
