Abstract

Peace journalism is a form of news coverage of conflicts that explores areas of agreement among the multiple parties involved. It reports on causes and consequences and gives voice to civilians affected by the conflict. Participants of the peace journalism syndicate suggest three areas of focus for journalism education: (a) framing and language, (b) context and complexity, and (c) ethical treatment of people. Also among the suggestions are ideas for in-class activities and assignments, as well as an example of a The New York Times opinion video for class discussion.
