Abstract

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a multifaceted heterogenous neurodevelopmental condition. It presents considerable difficulties for the families, as the lack of access to specialized care remains a major issue. In the context of autism care, remote support presents valuable opportunities to implement interventions, offer training for parents, and enhance care coordination at home. We examine deeper the advantages of remote support in providing care that focuses on families, summarize the crucial aspects of successful family-centered remote support, highlight important factors for implementation, and pinpoint potential areas for future research. Future research should focus on implementing large-scale, randomized controlled trials over an extended period of time to confirm the efficacy of the family-centered remote support for autism. Investigating the inclusion of innovative approaches, including artificial intelligence and virtual reality, may also improve the effectiveness and reach of family-centered remote interventions.
