Abstract

The rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) tools into higher education has transformed the student academic experience. This literature review examines the evolving relationship between AI tool usage and student well-being in higher education. This literature review examines a multidimensional framework of student well-being—psychological, emotional, social, cognitive, and physical—in digital and AI learning contexts. Drawing on empirical and theoretical research, the literature review identifies both the benefits and risks AI poses to student well-being. While AI tools such as intelligent tutoring systems and automated feedback platforms offer personalized learning, they may also contribute to cognitive overload and increased performance pressure. The chapter concludes with recommendations for educators, policymakers, and developers on implementing responsible, human-centered AI strategies that support—not compromise—student flourishing in AI-mediated learning environments.
