Abstract
The introduction of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) marks a significant shift in educational methodologies. GenAI provides exceptional opportunities for personalized learning and innovative content creation. This chapter explores the integration of GenAI in the educational landscape, emphasizing the crucial role of prompt engineering in effective classroom use. The discussion highlights educators’ and learners’ need to develop AI literacy skills. Understanding, interacting with, and critically evaluating AI technologies is crucial. This skill set equips educators and students to successfully address the challenges associated with AI through decisions related to its application and implications in learning environments. For a review of the current capabilities of GenAI, this chapter describes the current landscape of challenges and opportunities experienced by educators in integrating the growing set of GenAI tools. The chapter presents a window of opportunity for innovation and calls for a partnership between educators, technologists, and researchers. It, therefore, intends to equip all relevant stakeholders with the knowledge, skills, and tools on how best to deploy GenAI in education to create an adaptive, engaging, and efficient learning environment.
