Abstract
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) faces significant agriculture challenges, including an arid climate and limited water resources. Therefore, it is crucial to implement sustainable industrial agriculture practices. Despite the existence of some UAE sustainable agriculture solutions, comprehensive implementations that holistically integrate the Internet of Things (IoT), the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) across all agricultural domains while also prioritizing security and privacy, remain elusive. These are important aspects since industrial processes require fast and accurate decision-making. In this paper, we identify requirements for a sustainable industrial agriculture framework and critically examine existing literature within the UAE context to highlight gaps. Additionally, we propose an early architecture, leveraging the oneM2M IoT standard, cloud computing, edge computing, AI, and Federated Learning (FL). Our architecture aims to enhance interoperability, promote fast and accurate decision-making, and incorporate security and privacy, offering a blueprint for sustainable agricultural practices in the UAE.
